According to AFZ’s public relations and international affairs report, Shalamcheh border terminal registered more than 1.843.168 traffic of pilgrims to attend Arbaeen Hosseini during the month of Safar.
According to the report by Arbaeen headquarters, 886,345 Iranian pilgrims and 41,452 foreign pilgrims left Shalamcheh border terminal for Iraq. Also, 838,859 Iranian pilgrims and 41,452 foreign pilgrims used it to return to the country. The lowest traffic during Arbaeen days is 28th of Safar with 9,420 traffic and the highest daily traffic is 14th of Safar with 151,102 traffic.
Shalamcheh border terminal has easy access to Basra through the land border for passenger traffic and has a commercial dock for cargo vehicles and in the future, the railway line will be launched to connect with Iraqi railway.
This border terminal played an effective role in encouraging visitors to use it during Arbaeen Hosseini this year by benefiting from a 90-hectare parking lot with a capacity of 30,000 cars. The infrastructural created by AFZ’s Arbaeen headquarters to facilitate pilgrims’ traffic and reduce the heat, were among the things that made Shalamcheh the second choice for pilgrims.
This border terminal (after Mehran border in Ilam due to its centrality and proximity to central and northern provinces) is the second border to accept pilgrims in Arbaeen Hosseini. Also, Shalamcheh has the best foreign exchange index among other free zones, with an annual record of over 250 million dollars in exports.
