According to AFZ’s public relations and international affairs report, Ali Zarei, the chairman of the board and AFZ’s CEO , in the opening ceremony of the Arvand Cup International Chess Tournament, coincidence with the fifth anniversary of the defeat of Hasr Abadan and the Holy Defense Week hosted by the Abadan Oil Refinery Cultural Complex, said: Abadan has always been known as the city of firsts, and today we are starting the first international chess tournament to commemorate the victory of Islamic fighters in the Samen-o-Alaemeh operation.
The AFZ’s CEO appreciated all organizations that helped in holding this international chess tournament and said: AFZ will do its best to help sports and develop spaces and increase events for growth and development of sports.
Arvand Cup International Open Chess Tournament, commemorating the anniversary of the defeat of Hasr Abadan, will be held from October 5th to October 11th, with participation of more than a hundred athletes from 20 countries in the Abadan Refinery Oil Complex. Athletes from Armenia, Tajikistan, Austria, England, India, Turkmenistan, Spain, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq and Syria are participating in these competitions.
