Parliament of Iran (Majles) approves establishment of 12 Special Economic Zones and 8 Free Trade Zones

In the 238th session of the tenth Islamic Consultative Assembly, held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, under the chairmanship of Ali Larijani, the bill on the establishment of 8 new Free Trade Zones (FTZ) and 12 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) was ratified, Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Arvand Free Zone Organization reported.
In this meeting, Ali Edyani, the representative of Qa’em Shahr, Seyyed Mohammad Javad Abtahi, the representative of Khomeini Shahr and Majid Kianpour, the representative of Dorod and Azna, spoke against the bill.
Also, Fatima Saeidi, spokesman for the Economic Commission, Mohammad Feizi, the representative of Ardebil and Nemin, Sayyed Kazem Delkhosh, the representative of Someh Sara, Mohammad Hassan Nejad the representative of Marand and Julfa, also defended the bill. Morteza Bank, a consultant to the president and secretary general of the Free and Special Economic Zones, was also present at the meeting.
Members of the Iranian Parliament at the public meeting on (Wednesday, August 29), while considering the urgency of the bill, approved the establishment of 8 Free Trade Zones and 12 Special Economic Zones with a total of 127 votes in favor, 51 against and 10 abstentions from the present members in the parliament.
